I was never yours

Only a body to fill

with your worst fears

I dug my nails into

your back and

spend the next day

digging the dirt of

your damage out from

beneath them

A heart hardened too young,

but I was there to memorize

the shape of

it against the sun,

and the sound of

your footsteps up stairs,

and the number of

sips of

you

I could take before

I wound up intoxicated

with my mothers

rage

tugging at my collar,

begging me to

put her in the fight
